Today we travelled to play our first games in the newly formed East Midlands Ability Counts League where we had all four of our teams out playing including our ladies who will gain a massive amount of experience playing regular football (despite them playing against men)
We travelled to Long Eaton with no less then 11 players missing from the squads through holidays and other commitments. But the players all put in a massive shift and have done Sherwood Colliery Ability Counts proud.

From the go the team looked comfortable on the ball, with slick one touch football and a well deserved win over a rugged Riverside. Two great wins for the team and a lots of positives to take forward in the season. A big shout out to Jamie Lambert who has improved some much over pre-season. And has taken that form into the new season. Also his attitude has become more about the team and it has shown today with a quote that summed his performance "i'm not bothered who scores along as the team are doing well" great attitude and a massive well done.
Sherwood B 0-0 Riverside CP
A truly great game to watch. Both teams battled there hearts out and cancelled each other out. For a well deserved point a piece.

Another gritty performance by the players. A couple of lapses in concentrate that lead to both goals but the lads rallied and pull one back and could well of gotten a draw in the end. A great start for this team who find themselves in a tough league but on today performances I can see good things happening. Keep up the good work lads.
Would like to give a shout out to Rob Shore who but in one hell of a performance today he never stop running, he literally ran himself in to the ground. We have the old Rob back. Take from you performance today and build on it for the rest of the season. Well done Rob.

The weekend is nearly with us and its a busy one, but a massive one for the Club. Luca Lanzani has been inviting us to his Tournament for the last 4 years and the club has never been financially able to go. So this Tournament is a turning point for us. This Tournament is the biggest in the UK for Disability teams and we will be testing ourselves against teams from all over the Country and even Europe if in our levels. Lets go and enjoy the day, take it all in and hopefully we may come back with some Silverware. Then on the Sunday a few of us will have the pleasure of playing at the Proact Stadium, Chesterfield and for a few of our players this will have extra spice as they will be playing in the colours of the team they support, Mansfield Town. So lots of football ahead in a busy, action packed weekend. One we're very excited about and for the Club. Proud we've pulled off these 2 fantastic opportunities. #upthe woods Great words From our manager Vernon Thompson. A day 4 Years in the making. Lets get out there and enjoy these great occasions. |

The Whole squad is behind you and knowing you will do well. We may not be there physically but in spirit we will be with you every tackle made, every goal scored and every kick of the ball. Third Squad Results: Sherwood Colliery 0-3 Derek Doodley Academy Sherwood Colliery 1-4 Club Doncaster Titans FC Michael Richardson Today was a bit of a slow starter although loosing two games the lads put in a shift especially against Club Doncaster. The last half of football was the most exciting football of the year. In my opinion, every ball was battled for but from a in form Club Doncaster Titans FC, it was sadly not to be. But a respectable 3rd place was achieved by the lads who have been up against it all season. Also today we would like to say a big congratulations to Club Doncaster Titans FC on winning the South Yorkshire Ability Counts 5 A Side Premiership. Well done lads, It is just a shame that runners up Derek Doodley Academy didn't stop behind to see the presentation and receive their medals. So proud of the lads today! Well done and brilliant sportsmanship shown throughout the day. One Heart... One Mind... One Squad... One Family! |

WE DID IT....... First Team Results: Sherwood Colliery ACFC 2 - 0 Derek Doodley Academy We played a more defensive game than we would normally play but it worked, sitting back and launching long balls onto the attackers lead to Kristian Jackson scoring a hard earned goal, then Ricky Spademan managed to secure the title with a fantastic free kick. Second Team Results: Sherwood Colliery ACFC 1-9 City Knights A Very Tough game where city were on form but Sherwood being Sherwood, we couldn't leave the season on the last day without at least one goal on the day as Rob Shore popped up out of no where and got his first goal of the season... WELL DONE MATE! Sherwood Colliery 0-5 Sheffield Wednesday ACFC The score line for me does not reflect the performance. The lads put there hearts and souls into this one but were punished for lapses in concentration rather than bad play. Unlucky lads. But the important moment is that Sherwood's first team won the Premiership Title. The whole squad was cheering you on and couldn't be prouder of this achievement! #upthewoods Come on lads! Be Loud Be Proud! ONE HEART, ONE MIND, ONE SQUAD, ONE FAMILY. SHERWOOD COLLIERY!!!! WELL DONE! |

And remember this is vitally important........ HAVE FUN |

Back To Business! With the highs of the FA Peoples Cup which saw the Sherwood Ability Counts FC Ladies team through to the Finals, it's time to get back to business in the league. Tomorrow we see the first team play in two tough games in which six points could potentially see their lead of the premiership division extend, and take them that one step closer to securing the league title. The second Team after Fighting in an extremely Tough Championship Division will be going into their two Games with pride on the line and looking to go out on a high and bounce back strong in preparation for the next season and six points could do just that. Come on Sherwood we know you can do it. #upthewoods |
